Web Apps

When I was 13 a random person on AOL (America Online) used a program to rapidly send me dozens of private messages with content specially designed to freeze my computer and force me to reboot. Wanting to learn how it was possible to perform such a trick got me started in programming, leading me to create dozens of AOL add-on applications soon after using Visual Basic. In a way this was what got me started in my long career designing and building web apps.

In my late 20s I met the owner of Multiple Organics Inc., who gave me the opportunity to create a custom Enterprise Resource Planning application for his multi-million-dollar food-sourcing business. I built a full suite of interoperating tools including needs estimation using standard deviations and safety stock, inventory management with warehouse laser scanning, a customer relationship management system, order entry, pricing, transport tracking, report and document generation, graphing, and accounting. To this day this completely custom application gives Multiple Organics Inc. an enormous competitive edge.

Game Dev

I started making my first games as a teenager back in the early 90s. Over the years I've used different tools, including DirectX with C++, Adobe Director, Adobe Flash, Cocos2D with Objective-C, and Unity3D with C#. I've worked with both 2D (cycling through animation frames, calculating cartesian coordinates, and coding grid-based pathfinding) as well as 3D (calculating vectors with quaternion math, desigining state machines for animations, and writing vertex shaders). There was one time I even learned enough assembly code to create a small multi-player Nintendo Entertainment System game, all so I could run it in an NES emulator loaded on a hacked Dreamcast to play with my friends.

In 2013 I created a company called Last Life Games which I used to release games commercially for PC, tablet, and mobile. I won a few small awards with my work, my proudest being the prestigious Taco Bell Indie Game Garage award, and promoted my games at trade shows, even landing myself a spot with the distinguished Indie MEGABOOTH crew.

Digital Art

I spent most of my youth drawing, but it wasn't until I discovered the combination of tablet and stylus in my late 30s, allowing me to draw right onto the screen, that I fell in love with digital painting and illustration. Having a strong familiarity with Adobe Photoshop already, the layered style of composing in the tablet app Procreate felt intuitive, and I was able to start creating right away.

I create mostly fantasy and portrait paintings, and for a while illustrated a web comic, but I generally only paint as a hobby. Since my son Forrest was born however, I've been considering trying to create a children's book at some point. He gives me a lot of strange and wonderful ideas for stories with his wild imagination.
